2. Ross Island


If history and architecture excite you, this island is exactly the place to let you relive the colonial era. The erstwhile administrative headquarters of the Colonial British, Ross Island houses the ruins of the era. You can explore the Japanese bunkers from World War II, the ruins of ancient Victorian architecture, and the vast expanse of coral-white shoreline. 3. Viper Island 



You must have heard about Snake Island in Brazil. Did you know a similar one existed right off the coast of Port Blair? The name comes from the numerous pit viper snakes that inhabited the island during the colonial era. The island was used as a small prison for political convicts during the British colonial rule, due to its lack of fresh water reserve, rough seas all across, and lack of edible flora or fauna. Although most of the architecture has now vanished due to the devastating 2004 Tsunami, only the dilapidated two-story prison with the gallows stands resolute atop a hill.

4. North Bay Island

Another island of the group of Port Blair Island, you can visit this island to enjoy a host of water activities from snorkeling to scuba diving. 5. Ross and Smith Island

A lot of people might confuse this with Ross Island and may eliminate this gem from the itinerary. However, this is an island you cannot miss if you are in the Andamans. The natural sandbar between the two islands - Ross Island and Smith Island, is a sight to behold. It gets completely engulfed by the open Andaman Sea during the high tide but becomes fully passable when the tide recedes. You can walk up to several kilometers on the ocean floor and over the coral-white sand enjoying the secluded surroundings and the solitude.

6. Baratang Island

For an adventurous soul, this island is a hiker’s paradise. The boat ride through the dense mangroves and crocodile-infested saltwater is sure to spike your adrenaline. Once on the island, the hike through the dense jungle is an experience you cannot miss. The hike of around 2km ends with the spectacular limestone caves.
